Chibu Terms of Service

Effective date: 18 June 2026

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using Chibu. By downloading, installing, or using the Chibu app ("Chibu", "the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

These Terms are an agreement between you (the parent, guardian, or adult user) and the developer of Chibu ("we", "us", "our").

1. Who May Use Chibu

Chibu is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live). By using Chibu, you confirm that you are an adult and that you are the parent or legal guardian of any child whose information you add to the app, and that you have the authority to set up the app on the devices you use it on.

Children may use the app on a device that a parent or guardian has set up for them, under that adult's supervision and control.

2. Licence to Use the App

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use Chibu on Apple devices that you own or control, solely for your own family's personal, non-commercial use, and in accordance with these Terms and the Apple App Store Terms of Service.

This is a licence, not a sale. We retain all rights, title, and interest in and to the app, including all intellectual property rights.

You may not: copy, modify, or create derivative works of the app; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it (except to the limited extent the law expressly permits); rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or sublicense the app; remove any proprietary notices; or use the app to build a competing product.

3. Apple App Store Terms

Chibu is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the "Standard EULA"), available at:

https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Where these Terms and the Apple Standard EULA conflict, the Apple Standard EULA governs the app licence itself, and these Terms govern the relationship between you and us in all other respects. You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and us, not with Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.

4. Parental Responsibility

Chibu is a tool to help families organise chores, rewards, and screen time. It is your responsibility, as the parent or guardian, to:

  • Decide which chores, rewards, screen-time rules, and location features are appropriate for your child.
  • Supervise your child's use of the device and the app.
  • Talk to your child about any monitoring or location features you choose to switch on. Chibu is designed to be used openly and is not a covert monitoring tool.
  • Ensure that the information you enter about your child is accurate and that you are entitled to enter it.

You are solely responsible for the parenting decisions you make using Chibu. The app provides organisation and motivation features; it does not replace your own judgement, supervision, or care.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Chibu lawfully and respectfully. In particular, you agree not to:

  • Use the app to monitor, track, or store information about any person without the lawful right to do so. Chibu must only be used by a parent or guardian for their own children, openly and with the child's awareness.
  • Use the app for any covert surveillance, stalking, or harassment.
  • Upload, store, or share any content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate, including in chore titles, reward names, photos, or other fields.
  • Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the app, Apple's services, or any other user's data.
  • Use the app in any way that violates applicable law, including child-protection, privacy, and data-protection laws.

We may, where permitted by law, suspend or terminate your licence to use the app if you breach these Terms.

6. Your Data

Chibu stores your family's data in your own private Apple iCloud account. We do not have access to it. How information is handled is described in full in our Privacy Policy (PRIVACY_POLICY.md), which forms part of these Terms. By using the app, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID secure and for managing access to the devices on which the app is installed.

7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Chibu is free to use for one child profile. Additional features are available through an optional Chibu Plus subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, processed by Apple. All purchases are subject to our Subscription Terms (SUBSCRIPTION_TERMS.md) and to Apple's payment terms. Please review the Subscription Terms before purchasing.

8. Availability and Changes to the App

We aim to keep Chibu working reliably, but we do not guarantee that the app will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. Some features depend on Apple's systems (such as iCloud, Family Sharing, and Screen Time) and may be limited, changed, or unavailable due to Apple's platform restrictions, which are outside our control.

We may update, change, add, or remove features of the app from time to time, and may release new versions through the App Store.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chibu is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will meet your requirements, that screen-time, monitoring, or location features will be complete, accurate, timely, or uninterrupted, or that the app will be free of bugs or errors. Screen-time and location features rely on Apple's frameworks and on device permissions that a user can change; they are provided on a best-effort basis and should not be relied upon as the sole means of supervising or protecting a child.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the app, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the app and these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) GBP 20.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

11. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising out of your misuse of the app, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party (including any person whose information you store in the app without the right to do so).

12. Termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the app. You may stop using Chibu and delete it at any time. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these Terms. On termination, the licence granted to you ends, but sections that by their nature should survive (such as Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) will continue to apply.

You can delete all of your data at any time using the in-app Delete All Data option, as described in the Privacy Policy.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [INSERT GOVERNING JURISDICTION — e.g. England and Wales], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence, the courts of [INSERT JURISDICTION] will have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app.

If you are a consumer, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer-protection laws that apply there.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the app after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, please stop using the app.
