Building VeoTV: From User Feedback to Xtream Codes

One of the most rewarding aspects of being an indie developer is the direct connection with users. Recently, I had a great experience with a VeoTV user that perfectly illustrates this.

The Problem

A user reached out to me reporting some issues with the app. They were experiencing video aspect ratio problems and noticed that certain streams weren't playing correctly due to codec issues.

Instead of just acknowledging the issue, I asked for more details. The user was incredibly helpful, providing specific examples and logs that allowed me to pinpoint the problem quickly.

The Fix & The Feature

After identifying the bug, I pushed a fix. But the conversation didn't stop there.

The user suggested adding Xtream Codes support—a feature that allows logging in with a Host URL, Username, and Password instead of just using M3U playlists. They also requested a way to manage Favorites within this new section.

I thought, "Why not?" It was a great idea that would make the app much better for everyone.

The Result

I got to work and implemented the logical changes:

  1. Bug Fixes: Resolved the decoding errors and aspect ratio issues.
  2. New Feature: Added full support for Xtream Codes login.
  3. Enhancements: Added a Favorites section for convenient access.

After sending a TestFlight build, the user confirmed everything was working perfectly.

A Surprising Connection

At the end of our conversation, we discovered a surprising connection. It turned out the user's grandmother had lived in Tashkent, Almazar—the very same district where I was born and raised. It was a wonderful reminder of how small the world can be.

Conclusion

This experience reinforces why I love building apps: solving real problems for real people. The user was thrilled with the quick updates, and VeoTV is now better than ever.
